Workout Interrupted by Great Blue Heron

My morning run was interrupted by this guy.  He was in a pond about a 1/4 mile from my house and was very close to the shore.  I turned around and ran home to get my DSLR.  He was still there.  I got to fire off a few handheld shots before he took off.  A tripod would have been ideal to get him focused a lot sharper but I didn’t have the time to hunt it down fearing he wouldn’t be there anymore.

I was out’n’about near northern Sawmill Road in Columbus/Powell, Ohio and had an opportunity to fire the shutter.  I stopped at the Emily Traphagen Preserve which is part of the Preservation Park District of Delaware County’s.  On the way home I finally stopped to capture the silos near the roundabout and the abandoned farmstead to the west on Hyatts Road.

From Wikipedia: The Great Blue Heron (Ardea herodias) is a large wading bird in the heron family Ardeidae, common near the shores of open water and in wetlands over most of North and Central America as well as the West Indies and the Galápagos Islands. It is a rare vagrant to Europe, with records from Spain, the Azores and England. An all-white population found only in the Caribbean and southern Florida was once known as a separate species, the Great White Heron.
